HIA Update |
August 2012
The Kane County Health Impact Assessment
(HIA) project staff has completed the
first two steps in the HIA process,
Screening and Scoping. The Assessment
phase is underway and the HIA project
staff is working on gathering data
through literature review, health
assessment review, and surveys. As part
of the Scoping phase, a three-question
survey was distributed to local
stakeholders to narrow down the focus of
the HIA.
The results of the survey are available
by clicking
HERE. |
The next step is a producer survey which
will help answer questions identified in
the Scoping phase, including plans for
future production and barriers to
expanding production. Once available,
the results will be posted for everyone
to view.
An additional survey for land owners is
forthcoming. |

The HIA project staff is including an
economic analysis as part of the
Assessment phase, which will be done
with assistance from American Farmland
Trust. The results of the
three-question survey indicated people
were interested in the economic benefits
of the proposed amendment and the
findings of the economic analysis will
be available upon completion, targeted
for late fall. |
In June, project staff gave a
presentation on HIA at a Chicago
Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP)
meeting and demonstrated how it can be
used in the Chicago area. The
presentation included an overview of the
Kane County HIA project, a short
tutorial “What is HIA?” and a review of
current CMAP projects that could benefit
from an HIA.
