About the Elgin MIECHV Project & Evidence-Based Home Visit Models

The home visitation project is administered through the Illinois Department of Human Services Division of Early Childhood Home Visiting (IDHS – DEC HV).

Maternal Infant Early Childhood Home Visitation (MIECHV) Project goals:

  • Improve maternal and child health;
  • Prevent child abuse and neglect;
  • Reduce crime and domestic violence;
  • Increase family education level and earning potential;
  • Promote children’s development and readiness to participate in school; and
  • Connect families to needed community resources and supports
 

To measure success toward these goals, MIECHV uses these federal benchmarks

  1. Improved maternal and newborn health
  2. Reduced incidence of child maltreatment, child injuries and ER visits
  3. Increased school readiness and achievement
  4. Reduced domestic violence or crime
  5. Improved family economic self-sufficiency
  6. Improved coordination and referrals for other community resources and supports​

The evidence-based models used by Kane County home visiting agencies are:
  • Healthy Families Home Visit Model
  • Nurse Family Partnership Home Visit Model
  • Parents as Teachers Home Visit Model

Home Visiting Coordinated Intake:

  1. ​Improves the centralized intake system for home visiting referrals, by recruiting community partners, increasing home visiting community awareness and its benefits, and assuring as many families as possible enroll in home visitation.
  2. Develops and supports the early childhood system, especially, the leadership skills of parents so that they become active in parent groups and advisory committees that serve the needs of young children.​
